MAC for your PC

This post guide you to install idenweb OS x86 to your computer and dual booting with Windows7.
OS x86 is a project for developing MAC based operating systems for regular Intel or AMD PC's. Before you begin your system must satisfy the following requirements. I am installing it on HP Pavilion DV6 1315tx notebook.

  • Processor with SSE,SSE2 or SSE2/3 instruction sets supported.(well supported with Intel processors)
  • At least 9GB free disk space.
  • At least 512 MB RAM.
  • DVD drive to run iso.

To check weather your processor supports the given instruction sets, you can download and install CPU-Z from here. As you are going to dual boot, you must manage your boot loader. Therefore you must download and install this tool which is called easy BCD. Then you have to check weather there is an entry for the Windows 7 in Edit Boot Menu tab. If there is not, you have to add it. Otherwise, after you install OSX86 you have to repair your Windows 7 bootrec  by using a Windows 7  bootable CD.

Followng is a screenshot of EasyBCD.

Now if you have done with all these things, you have to download proper OSX86 distribution. There are many OSX86 distributions such as Kalway, iAtkos and ideneb. My choice is ideneb 1.4. You can download the torrent for ideneb by following the link:

This torrent contains the iso file and md5 string. Before you burn the iso, you have to do the md5 checksum.
Then you can burn the iso to a DVD. This iso file is around 4.4GB so you can use single layer DVD to burn it.

Now you are good to go.

Following are the steps to install OSX86 ideneb 1.4.

1. Firstly, boot from the ideneb DVD.

Then following will display on your screen

Then apple logo will display and setup will load files.

If you don't get this screen, you have to boot from verbose mode. In order to do that, you must reboot
from DVD and press F8 to get to the command prompt. In the prompt type cpus=1 -v and hit enter.

    Then following screens will appear.

 2. From this window you have to select the language.

    Click continue

    Read the instructions and agree.

3. From here you have to configure a partition to install.
In my case i have already created a partition from windows and i need to erase it.
When erasing you have to select the volume format as Mac OS Extended (journaled)

Now select the partition and click continue. Then select customize.

4.  Now you have to install the patches for your hardware (hardware drivers).
This step is bit tricky, because suitable patches depends on your system.
In my case I chose PS2 fix for ACPI under alternative essential patches. Otherwise my touch pad and
keyboard will not work. If you have AMD processor, you have to select the Vanila kernel.

Under applications you have to choose OSX86 tool, EFI studio, kext help.
These applications will be usfull later. Because some of the modern computers don't have proper patches
available for their hardware and they will not completely installed.(Specially for the VGA
     card.).

Now you have to select cpus=1-fix under fix.

Now click done and click install.

  5. Following things will appear on your screen throughout your installation.

  6. Now you have to reboot.
When rebooting you cant see mac OSX86 option in your boot menu. You can only see windows 7. That
is because you haven't add an entry for OSX86 in EasyBCD. So you have to boot in to Windows 7 and
add mac entry. When adding the entry, remember to select mode as MBR.

Now restart the computer and boot by selecting the NST MAC OS option(Skip the command prompt).
If boot halts, then you can boot from safe mode by typing -x in command prompt. If it doesn't work try
booting from verbose mode from the OS.

  7. From here you have to enter your personal details.

Now you are done. Now you will see the following screen

From here you can search applications.

8. Aftermath
Now you have to open your hardware details window and check weather all the hardware devices are
installed correctly. If not you have to download proper kexts (kexts are mac hardware drivers for kernal
environments) and install them using OSX86 tools.
You can download them by searching HCL's(Hardware Compatible Lists) for you computer.
Following link is for special VGA kexts :
Follow the link to audio kexts :

Sometimes you need to edit plisits(preference lists) inside kexts according to your hardware. You can edit
them from your mac OSX86 text editor. If you are unable to edit them due to privilege problems, you
have to boot from windows an edit them using this tool.

To have better graphics in your mac OSX86 you must enable QE/CI modes in your vga card by choosing
      proper kexts.
      Sorry about my text alignments.

Enjoy you mac os.
